NIK KERSHAW IN NOTTINGHAM
24th June 2005 - Review by Matthew C.
Just got back from Nottingham gig! I gatecrashed it!!
Nik was amazing!!!
Leo was amazing!!
Spencer was amazing!!!!
Had a nice chat with nik at the nearest pub afterwards too-he's so
welcoming and generous!!
I rang the club nik was playing at last night to see if he really was,
had it confirmed at 6.45 and thought bugger it, I'm going to
Arrived at the gig and 7.50pm and insisted I got in, got passed on to
woman organising it. She wanted to know how I found out and I
told her I was a Nik nutter.
She quickly let me in!
It was a dead small venue, about 150 people sat down on tables. I
so excited, texted Kathleen to tell her "I got in!".
The audience was very respectful, 3 people knew the words to TBF and
MINS so the rest of them looked on respectfully!
It was the same set as the Manchester gig but Nik looked more relaxed
than Manchester. He fluffed more words this time but no one noticed.
He was great.
So the gig ended and he was fab.
I then waited around for about an hour, desperate to meet nik, I last
met him In 98 in Ascot.
I chatted to Leo and he was so friendly and warm and gentle and
generous. I then waited some more, desperate not to miss him. As the
stage was being dismantled I noticed Spencer and asked him if Nik had
gone. He said he hadn't, we chatted for a bit and then he told me
basically nik was around the corner in a pub, go and say "Hi".
So I did and we chatted for a very quick 10/15 minutes. He was very
gracious and attentive and funny. He was a bit shattered but seems
resolute that there is more music to come after this album and that
there may be some more acoustic gigs at some stage which is dead
encouraging. I thanked him for his work and told him I was there as
sole representative of the WK list. I told him I'd begun the process
brainwashing the kids I teach with WII.
Time flew bye.
That is it, well most of it.
